Write about a conversation that changed you.

Prompt Response:  A conversation that has changed me is that its okay to not have friends. When I was growing up I thought I had to be everyone friend even if they were being mean to me. But when my mom had that conversation with me it changed my perspective of people. I stopped trying to please people and started to hang around people I felt enjoyed my company, listened to me when I talked, and invited me to things as soon as they thought of the plan. I don't have a lot of friends because of that change but i'm just fine with that.  Summary: Today in class we talked about the s type of ways you can site evidence  Reflection:  Today in class I learned about the benefits of social media

Write about something that you believed as a child.

Prompt Response:  Something I believed in as a child was if you slept with gum in your mouth the gum would end up in your hair when you woke up. I don't know why I believed this but my auntie told me this after I went to sleep in the car with it in my mouth. I guess she wanted to dumb it down for me since I was a kid. Later on as I grew up she told me the real reason why you shouldn't, it's to prevent choking while asleep.  Summary: Today in class we watched ads and campaigned videos to identify Logos,Pathos, and Ethos.  Reflection:  Today in class I learned new vocabulary words.

Write about a fear you have overcome.

Prompt Response:  A fear I have overcome is talking. When I was a kid I didn't really talk unless someone was talking to me or I had a question. Since I am in JROTC & cheering it has really gotten out of my shell and I am not as afraid to talk In front of people. I still am a little nervous but eventually I will get over it.  Summary: Today in class we worked in groups to identify the claim in an article. Reflection:  Today in class I found types of claims in an article for my text.

As you grow older and face new experiences, what issue or topic do you think you'll have to stand up and debate most often, whether with friends, family, or society?

Prompt Response:  A topic that I will have to stand up and debate most often is not to normalize kids/teenagers doing adult things. I feel like kids should be kids and teenagers should be doing what teenagers should be doing. In this generation the teen pregnancy has gone up because parents allow their kids to do things they are not supposed to do. Teenagers have made smoking weed a trend and it has caused a lot of people to die because of it.  Summary: Today in class we learned about the claim.   Reflection:  Today in class I learned about the 3 types of claim.

Write about a truth you were afraid to accept.

Prompt Response:  A truth I was afraid to accept was everyone isn't going to be your friend. When I was little I had friends but they weren't real because they would bully me and stop being my friend out of nowhere and use me for the things I had. And since I was little I didn't understand what was going on until I met a girl in 5th grade who is still my best friend till this day. She showed me that they really weren't my friend.  Summary: Today in class we did notes on Argument.  Reflection:  Today in class I learned how to identify Logos,Pathos, and Ethos from a picture or ad.

Write about a time when you were judged unfairly.

Prompt Response:  A time I was judge unfairly is when everyone though I was mean. Their was a time where everyone thought I mean and didn't want to speak to me or was scared to because they assumed I was mean. I feel like they thought I was mean because of my resting face it looks like I am mad and don't want to talk to people. But when someone actually talked to me their image was removed because I am actually a nice and bubbly person.  Summary: Today in class we did a common lit.  Reflection:  Today in class I read a new story on common lit.

Imagine you are learning about Hispanic/Latino heritage for the very first time. What would you be curious to know about the traditions, foods, music, or celebrations?

Prompt Response:  Something I would be curious about if I were learning about Hispanic/Latino heritage is why the food be spicy. Another thing I would be curious about is why the language is so hard to learn. I was trying to learn how to speak Spanish but learning a new language is harder than I thought and its very confusing to see words that sound like a word in English but doesn't have the same meaning.  Summary: today in class we learned about thesis statements.  Reflection:  today in class I learned about clustering.

After viewing your classmates’ poem posters, select one presentation that caught your attention. Describe what you enjoyed about it or something new you learned from their work.

Something I enjoyed about her presentation were her themes because I think of my friends as being a safe place. Something I learned from her presentation was that puffer fish stay together during a tide in the ocean.  Summary: Today in class we presented her poems. Reflection:  Today in class I learned a lot of things about my peers in class.

In “The Interlopers” by Saki, Ulrich and Georg view each other as interlopers, outsiders intruding on their land and their lives. Think about a time when you felt like an interloper or when someone else felt out of place in your world. How did that situation affect relationships, emotions, or outcomes?

Prompt Response:  A time I felt like an interloper is when I moved schools. I felt like I didn't belong because everyone already had their friends. This messed with my emotions because I don't like feeling like a bother so when I were to talk to people they wouldn't talk back or they would give short answers. Some of the outcomes from this is I learned to just be alone and be around people who really want me around and to not care that people don't want me around.  Summary: today in class we did a common lit.  Reflection:  today in class I read a new story I didn't know about.

Of today’s 15 vocabulary words, which three do you think you will use the most in your speaking and writing this semester? Explain why each word feels useful or powerful to you.

Prompt Response:  Three words I would this semester in my writing would be affectation, adventitious, and altruism because they are all different ways to words or to make my writing a little bit more smart. Affectation feels useful this year because it's a great word If I don't want to use a basic word like a bad attitude. Adventitious is a useful word because I never would think that word would mean accidental I feel like it would make my writing look more up to part and match my grade level writing. And altruism is a useful word because it would go well with the writing we have been doing.  Summary: today in class we did vocabulary and exercises for the vocab.  Reflection:  today in class I learned new words from the vocab.

Which aspect of creating a poem do you enjoy the most? Tell what it is and explain why.

Prompt Response:  The aspect of creating a poem I enjoy the most is finding out a topic that relates to me the most during that time in my life. I enjoy this part because I like the work I produce when I am excited to finally write out what I have been feeling. I don't like to tell people what's going on in my mind I just keep it to myself. When we get to write a poem I like to express myself through metaphors because it makes me feel like people know how I'm feeling but know exactly how I am feeling.  Summary: Today in class we talked about the assignment which is creating our own poem.  Reflection:  Today in class I started a rough draft before I started my poem.

In the lobby it was 4 grown men and they were African American and a while old man. The white old man asked me if I had a lighter and I told him i didn't have one so proceeded to ask the 2 other girls and they both said no. He then walked outside and the 4 men that were in the lobby asked us what he ask us and we told them, they kinda got  frustrated  because why are you asking kids if they have a lighter. The old man comes back into the lobby thinking the 4 man had left but they were still there. The old man asked us again did we have a lighter again because he thought we were lying. The 4 man stopped him and started to cuss him out because there are 4 older people in here you can ask. we ended up telling my friend mom and the old man drove off somewhere. If the man wasn't there that could have ended ba...
