As the first semester comes to an end, take time to reflect on your learning and growth in this course. In a well-developed response, explain what you enjoyed most about the class, identify the project or assignment you found most engaging, and discuss which aspect of the course you connected with the most (such as poetry, fiction, writing, or discussion). Finally, reflect on one area where you feel you need additional support or improvement as we move into the spring semester.

Prompt Response:  Something I enjoyed about this class is the poems and the short stories we read, They were very interesting and mind pulling and brought me to engage in the class conversation. The part of the course that I felt more connected to the most is the poems because I like to come up with my own poems and I also like to find the deeper meaning of the poem. A topic that I feel I need more help in is critical thinking questions.  Summary: Today in class we presented our final project.  Reflection: Today in class I presented my final project.

Many holidays center around traditions. Describe one tradition that is important to you or your family and explain why it still matters (or why it no longer does).

Prompt Response:  One tradition that is important to my family is wearing matching pajamas on Christmas Eve and Christmas. This one tradition is important because it brings the family together and it's fun to spend time with the family for a night. We play fun games and talk about random things with each other.  Summary: Today in class we worked on the final projects.  Reflection:  today in class I worked on my final project.

How have the holidays changed as you have grown older? Compare your experiences of the holidays during childhood with how you experience them now, focusing on shifts in perspective, responsibilities, or emotional meaning.

Prompt Response:  The holidays have changed me over the years because I don't get as many things as I did. Now that I have gotten older my parents get me one thing or just give me the money. We also don't do the holiday traditions anymore now that everyone is older and doesn't have the time or is always working.  Summary: Today In class we did vocabulary.  Reflection:  Today in class I learned new vocabulary words from lesson six.

Write about something you’ve outgrown but still miss.

Prompt Response:  Something I have outgrown but still miss is having easy homework. I know that everything isn't going to be easy in life and that's why I outgrown it. I miss the careless life of being a kid and not having to worry about turning in an assignment at 11:59 and picking what college I want to go to.  Summary: Today in class I took a vocabulary test on lesson 1-5  Reflection:  today in class we did read an poem about civil liberty

Write about something that you can't stop thinking about.

Prompt Response:  Something I can’t stop thinking about is why did scientists stop exploring the ocean. I want to know what did they find and how could it affect  us. I also want to know why can’t any countries do experiments on Antarctica. What did they find and how bad is it.  Summary: wasn’t here Reflection:  wasn’t here

Reflection: this assignment helped me learn more things about myself that I didn’t know

Write about the best gift you have received.

Prompt Response:  The best gift I have ever received was my ipad because I have always wanted an iPad so I can play my games and watch my tv shows up close and in the car.  S ummary: Today in class we did vocabulary  Reflection:  today in class I learned new vocab words.

After watching the short film Identity, write a blog post reflecting on how the masks in the film represent the pressure to fit in and the struggle to discover who you really are. Choose one moment from the film that stood out to you and explain why. Then, connect the film’s message to Langston Hughes’ poem “I, Too” and to the mask you are creating in class. What part of your identity do you want your mask to reveal?

Prompt Response:  The mask in the film represents the pressure to fit in because when you want to fit in you try your best to fit in with the next person so you feel like you are a part of something, or when you don't think your personality, or looks don't compare with others you start to switch everything to try to be like other people. One moment from the film that stood out to be is when the girls were looking at the poster and it says the yellow mask is what is beautiful, all the others girls have on yellow mask trying to be beautiful too. This stood out to me because mostly in high school everyone wants to be like the next person and try to fit in with the crowd. this connects to the poem because it shows everyone is the same and you make yourself stand out on your own not by copying anyone else.  Summary: Today in class we watched a film called "Identity" Reflection:  today in class I learned what my final is going to be.

In “I, Too,” the speaker expresses pride in his identity and his rightful place in America. Reflect on your own life: What aspect of your cultural identity are you most proud of, and why?

Prompt Response:  My cultural identity that I am proud of is my skin color because it carries the history, strength, and beauty of the people who came before me. It reminds me that I am enough, worthy, and deserving of love exactly as I am. My skin is a reflection of my identity, and I honor it with confidence and pride.  Summary: today in class we read a new poem called "I, Too" Reflection:  today in class I learned what being an American means.

In “We Real Cool,” the speakers make choices that seem exciting, bold, and rebellious, even though those choices lead to consequences. Write about a moment in your own life when you followed what looked cool or fun, only to realize afterwards that it wasn’t the smart or responsible path. What influenced your decision, and how did your perspective change later?

Prompt Response:  A time followed something that looks cool and fun is when I was in 7th grade and me and my friends decided we weren't going to pay attention in class. This hurt bad because since we weren't paying attention we didn't hear we had an assignment due at the end of class. This caused our grade to go down and we weren't able to participate in a class party. This influenced me because I wanted to have friends that thought I was cool and fun to hang around this eventually changes because I learned that I don't need anyone to think I'm cool or fun.  Summary: Today in class we read a poem called We real cool.  Reflection:  Today in class i learned what the saying jazz june means.

Discuss something meaningful or memorable you experienced over the break, or reflect on what you felt most thankful for during that time.

Prompt Response:  Something that I did that I felt more thankful for this thanksgiving was helping my family cook. This year I cooked 2 dishes we had, it helped out because we were able to eat earlier this year. I am really grateful I was able to have a wonderful meal and spend time with my family.  Summary: Today in class we did lesson 4 vocabulary  Reflection:  today in class I learned new vocabulary.
